• Brief Identification of the Obtained Ph.D.

  The main theme of the Ph.D. thesis is building mathematical models to be solved by digital computer for power systems under different operating and fault conditions, such that the performance of distance relays of H.V. and E.H.V. networks can be thoroughly and comprehensively investigated. There are two main types of models. Type one with accurate representation of networks and simple representation of alternators, where interests focus on error in relay measurements. Type two deals with accurate representation of alternators and its control equipment, and simple representation of networks, where interests focus on dynamic behavior distance relays during power swing.
  A feasibility study about the possibility for a digital computer to control all protection systems in a typical substation without human intervention is also included in the thesis.
