Mansoura University honours scientists and researchers on the 14th science day celebration

On Tuesday, July 25, 2023 ,during the 14th  Science Day celebration, Mansoura University honored 75 scientists and researchers who won state awards and university awards for the year 2023 and the most influential scientists on the Stanford list, bodies and individuals, who have PhDs (DSC) in science, the highest funding for a research project, the most influential scientists in the global Clarivate list, the Robert Lynn Carroll International Award, the best office for innovation support, transfer and marketing of technology at the level of Egyptian universities, Mansoura Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences EGBAS obtained the Q3 classification, the best public universities in the patent index, scientists and researchers who won the award for the best scientific research for faculty members and researchers at the university were honored, Patents Index, University of Sharjah Award for PhD Theses in Administrative Sciences in the Arab World, Youth for Development Initiative

In the presence of Prof.Cherif Youssef Khater, President of Mansoura University, Prof.El-Sayed Abdel-Khalek, Former Minister of Higher Education, Prof.Mohamed El-Kenawy - Former President of Mansoura University, Prof.Ashraf Abdel Basset - Former President of Mansoura University, Presidents of national and private universities, Prof. Moawad El-Khouly - President of New Mansoura University, Prof.El-Saeed Abdel-Hadi President of Horus University, Prof. Ashraf Tarek Hafez, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Prof. Mohamed Attia Al-Bayoumi, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs ,Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Secretary General of the University, former vice presidents of the university, faculty deans, assistant university secretaries, directors of medical centers, members of the parliament from Mansoura University ,faculty vice deans,and faculty members.

Prof. Cherif Youssef Khater said that the celebration of the 14th science day at Mansoura University aims to honor the distinguished members at Mansoura University and those whose names were written in the history record of Mansoura University in scientific research. He added that celebrating Science Day is a tribute to genius, excellence, and diligence in serving the nation, and a confirmation of the role of science, education, and scientific research in building the knowledge society that we seek.He also expressed his aspiration for the scholars of Mansoura University to contribute their knowledge and research in the many areas of priority, as they are the pillars of the scientific and educational renaissance that we aspire  for the sake of Egypt and its people, believing in their noble mission, bearing the trust and responsibility sincerely, exerting the efforts and knowledge for the sake of their society and their country.

Prof.Ashraf Tarek Hafez talked about the development of scientific research in recent years as a result of the interest of the university administration and the sector by developing scientific research through combining the experience of distinguished scientists with the aspiration of young researchers. He called for intensifying international publishing in areas of global interest to raise the university’s ranking.He also stressed the university’s endeavor to provide a suitable environment that can help researchers produce more research that is published internationally in international journals.He praised the rates of international publication in many disciplines, which made the university at the forefront of universities in international rankings.

Dr. Amr Awad, General Coordinator of Research, reviewed summary of efforts of the research sector, as the university achieved a big leap in the number of research as it reached a number of published 4000 international papers for the year 2022, with a growth rate of 220% compared to 2018 .The Q1 research publication has also developed by 320 from 2018 till now, with 2087 research published. Scientific research support has reached 55 million pounds for the year 2022-2023. Publication incentives for faculty members are 20 million pounds. Support for research laboratories has reached 27.8 million pounds.He added that Mansoura University Journal was not included in the Scopus database, and Mansoura University was included as a collaborating member in CERN ,The university also achieved the highest publication rate for each faculty member among the rest of the Egyptian universities.

Dr. Mona Al-Hilali, Director of the Ranking Office at Mansoura University, presented the development of the university’s ranking among  international rankings, the most important of which is the Shanghai ranking  in 2022. Mansoura University succeeded in being in the category of 600-700 in the world. It was presenting the university’s ranking internationally and locally by 200 centers in the last 3 years. According to the US News classification for the year 2023, Mansoura University succeeded in being among the top 500 universities in the world and ranked 447 internationally and in the world and the second locally. Mansoura University has also advanced 186 international position comparing to the year 2020,and according to The IMPACT ranking Mansoura University advanced 100 international position to be one of the best 301 to 400 globally. Concerning Simago Spanish Ranking "Simago 2023", Mansoura University advanced 42 places to rank 606 at the international level compared to 2022 , where In the English QS ranking ,Mansoura University advanced 200 international positions in 2023 to be in the category 1001-1200 compared to 2022, and it appeared for the first time in the field of social sciences, ranked from 301 to 400 globally and ranked first locally, according to the British Times ranking of academic disciplines for the year 2023

Dr. Ahmed Fekry, Director of the Office of Grants and International Support, gave a presentation on the statistics of research projects: figures-facts-activities between 2019 and 2023, where he reviewed the distribution of the number of projects funded by parties outside the university and the amount of funding in different facilities between the period from 2019 to 2023, in addition to the total participation rate for projects funded from abroad and funding amounts in different facilities with the diversity of external funding sources.He also discussed the percentage of participation of different facilities in research projects in the Research Fund at Mansoura University and the amount of funding over the last five years. He pointed to the importance of activating the role of accredited laboratories, which are considered laboratories with high level of efficiency and technology in accordance with the requirements of the International Accreditation Organization of the project to qualify laboratories for international accreditation
