Mansoura University launches planting 1,000 fruit trees

Prof. Cherif Youssef Khater, President of Mansoura University, received on February 22, 2024, a delegation from the “Hangamelha” (We will beautify it) Foundation for Sustainable Development during the inauguration of the event of planting 1,000 fruit trees in the university’s gardens, in the presence of Prof. Mohamed Attia, Vice President of the University for Education and Students, and Prof. Mohamed Abdel Azim, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, Eng. Muhammad Kobtan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Hangamelha Foundation, Prof. Muhammad Shata, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Al-Mutawali Abu Sarie’, Vice dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Major General Alaa Abdel Karim, Member of the Initiative, Eng. Salah Saber Ezz El-Din El-Sherbiny, Director General of Environmental quality at Mansoura’s branch and the project work team.

Prof. Cherif Youssef Khater said that Mansoura University is among the top 4 universities in the Arab region according to the QS World Sustainability Ranking for the year 2024, as the university ranked second on the list of Egyptian universities, and ranked first as the best environmentally friendly university, stressing the importance of the presidential initiative to plant 100 million fruit trees in various parts of Egypt in reducing the effects of climate change, increasing the green area, improving the environment, purifying the air, and confronting pollution. He thanked the Hangamelha Foundation for its development role, praising the fruitful cooperation between the university and the foundation in developing the environment and reducing pollution, as 1,000 fruit trees will be planted in various university gardens.

Prof. Mohamed Abdel Azim said that one of Mansoura University’s priorities is to create a sustainable environment within the university campus, by maintaining environmental standards on the one hand, and on the other hand, Mansoura University enjoys green areas that support sustainable environmental development, which is what the university seeks to maintain and develop constantly. He also pointed out the importance of these development initiatives that benefit all university staff, and urged university students to take care of the trees they planted.

Eng. Muhammad Kobtan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Hangamelha Foundation, said that this initiative aims to provide food, reduce the effects of climate change, and motivate students to participate in society. He added that the Foundation is cooperating with many universities and institutions in the field of planting fruit trees.
