Mansoura University hosts the first meeting of the Basic Sciences Committee of the Supreme Council of Universities after its new formation

Mansoura University hosted on January 21, 2025, the meeting of the Basic Sciences Sector Committee of the Supreme Council of Universities, in its first meeting after the issuance of the decision of Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, to form it new.

Prof. Cherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, received Prof. Sayed Abdel Azim Al-Sharkawi, Chairman of the Basic Sciences Sector Committee of the Supreme Council of Universities, and former President of Suez University, in the presence of Prof. Osama Al-Ayan, Dean of the Faculty of Science.

Prof. Cherif Khater welcomed the Chairman and members of the committee, expressing his appreciation for holding the committee meeting at Mansoura University, and noting that the Faculty of Science is one of the leading faculties in scientific research at Mansoura University, stressing that the advancement of scientific research is a priority that the Egyptian state places among the most important axes of the sustainable development strategy and Egypt's Vision 2030.

Prof. Sayed El-Sharkawy, Chairman of the Committee, expressed his pleasure to be hosted by Mansoura University, with the participation of deans of faculties of science and experts in basic science specializations at Egyptian universities, hoping that the meeting would come out with purposeful recommendations to serve the scientific and research system. He also extended his thanks and appreciation to the university leadership for hosting the meeting of the Basic Sciences Committee, praising the development witnessed by the university and wishing for further progress and prosperity.

The session activities began under the chairmanship of Prof. Sayed Abdel-Azim El-Sharkawy, with the participation of Prof. Fakiha Heikal, Professor at the Faculty of Science, Cairo University and Secretary of the Committee, and Prof. Osama El-Ayan, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and in the presence of the Planning Committee of Egyptian scientists in the field of basic sciences, and the Office Committee of the deans of the faculties of science and corresponding research institutes.

Prof. Osama El-Ayan welcomed the head of the Basic Sciences Sector Committee, the elite of Egyptian scientists, deans of science faculties in Egyptian universities, and directors of research programs in Egyptian universities.

Prof. Sayed Abdel-Azim Al-Sharkawi, expressed his pleasure during his opening speech to be at Mansoura University, where he obtained his master's and PhD degrees. He added that there is tremendous technological development in all fields, and this must be accompanied by developing the skills and capabilities of science faculty’s students by ensuring that they gain professional and research experience during their study period and until graduation. He said that the Ministry of Higher Education is in the process of developing a guiding regulation for science faculties students, with an emphasis on the comprehensive content of the study of science faculties students so that it covers all the skills they need during their studies and how to benefit from them, especially the outputs of scientific research, which will have the greatest impact in scientific research in Egypt during the coming period. He also called for developing a job description for all qualitative programs specific to science faculties and determining the extent to which the labor market benefits from them.

Prof. Osama Al-Ayan began the committee session, where the topics specified in it were discussed, followed by discussions between the committee members and asking questions among the members.

 It is worth noting that the Basic Sciences Sector Committee of the Supreme Council of Universities includes in its membership deans of faculties of science and institutes and experts in basic science specializations, and faculties of environmental studies at the level of Egyptian universities
