Prof. Cherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, inaugurated the 17th Scientific Chemistry Conference, titled "Chemistry and Its Role in Development." Held under the patronage of Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Education and Scientific Research, the conference will be held from April 14 to 18, 2025, in the Prof. Ahmed Amin Hamza Hall at the Faculty of Science.
The conference aims to discuss new scientific research in the field of chemistry and its applications across all branches of chemistry (physical, analytical, inorganic, organic, and various branches). These research, in turn, contribute to sustainable development, support scientific research in Egypt, and contribute to strengthening cooperation with external scientific bodies.
The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Tarek Ghalwash, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research; Prof. Osama Al-Ayan, Dean of the Faculty and Conference Chair; Prof. Hassan Etman, former Vice President of Mansoura University; Prof. Ihab Abdel Latif, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research; Prof. Mohsen Awad Zahran, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Mohamed Abu El-Nour, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; and Prof. Sahar Ibrahim Mustafa, Head of the Chemistry Department and Conference Rapporteur.
The event was also attended by faculty members, their assistants, researchers, and students from the faculty, with international participation from Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Yemen, and South Africa.
Prof. Cherif Khater expressed his pleasure to be present at the Faculty of Science among such a distinguished group of scholars from our prestigious university, extending his thanks to them, he welcomed the university's guests from within and outside Egypt to this conference, which spans 45 years of excellence, creativity, and leadership. This conference will discuss a number of chemistry research projects from academic institutions, scientific research, and industry in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Arab countries, and foreign countries. The university president emphasized the importance of these conferences in enriching research and scientific life, and the need to transform academic scientific research into applied scientific research by producing concrete recommendations that can be implemented on the ground and have a positive role in sustainable development. The University President highlighted the importance of the College of Science's effective and distinguished role in scientific research and the incentives for publication both inside and outside the university, as it is a beacon of knowledge and scholars. He extended his thanks to the Dean of the Faculty of Science and the team responsible for organizing this conference, which served to highlight its distinguished image.
Prof. Tarek Ghalwash emphasized the importance of the Faculty of Science and its effective role both inside and outside the university, as it is a beacon of knowledge and scholars. He added that human history owes a great debt to chemistry, as this science has brought about tremendous breakthroughs in various fields, from the development of medicines to the invention of modern agricultural methods, from the extraction of minerals to the development of energy sources that power our modern world, through the food and textile industries, electronics, construction, and much more. He pointed out that chemistry holds precious treasures for a better future, in the fields of developing environmentally friendly alternative energy sources, purifying water and air, combating climate change that threatens our planet, inventing new treatments for incurable diseases, opening promising horizons in the world of nanotechnology, and many other contributions that promise a brighter future. Prof. Osama Al-Ayan welcomed the attendees, emphasizing the Faculty of Science and the Department of Chemistry's commitment to organizing the department's conference since 1980, with the participation of research bodies and civil society, given the importance and effective impact of chemistry on societal development. He also emphasized the University administration's unlimited support for the College of Science and its scientific research in implementation of the University's vision. He added that this scientific conference is an important platform for communication between researchers and scientists from various disciplines and countries, enhancing scientific cooperation and enriching discussions on the latest scientific findings in the field of chemistry. He said that the conference is not limited to presenting research, but rather includes specialized workshops and scientific lectures aimed at developing researchers' skills and opening new horizons for them in various applied fields.
Prof. Ibrahim Abdel Latif discussed the achievements of the Faculty of Research Sciences, which reached 737 internationally published scientific research papers according to 2024 statistics, including more than 350 published in Q1-ranked journals.
Prof. Sahar Mustafa stated that the conference aims to bring together those interested in chemistry in its various branches to exchange experiences and discuss ways to advance academic and applied research that contributes to development and the advancement of the educational, research, and environmental processes, and to achieve the highest rankings among Egyptian and international universities. Approximately 200 participants from 7 countries and 17 universities, bodies, and research centers are participating.
At the end of the opening session, Prof. Cherif Khater announced the commencement of the conference activities, and the participants were honored.
