Mansoura University launches its first international science week with broad participation

 In the presence of the President of Mansoura University and the Governor of Dakahlia, Mansoura University launches its first international science week with broad participation

Prof. Cherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, and Major General Tarek Marzouk, Governor of Dakahlia, inaugurated the "First International Science Week" on April 27, 2025.

The event is organized by the University's Graduate Studies and Research Sector and will run from April 27 to 30. The event was attended by Prof. Ahmed Gamal El-Din Moussa, former Minister of Education and Higher Education; Prof. El-Sayed Abdel Khalek, former Minister of Higher Education and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Mansoura University; Prof. Mohamed Attia El-Bayoumi, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Mohamed Abdel Azim, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Tarek Ghalwash, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research; and a number of former vice presidents of the university, including Mr.  Saad Abdel Wahab, Secretary General of the University.

The event was also attended by Prof. Alan Landay, Vice President for Medical Affairs at the University of Texas; Prof. Ibrahim Mohamed Omar, Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of Somalia; Prof. Prakash Chaudhary, Director of the Maulana Azad Center for Indian Culture in Cairo; Ms. Aisha Mustafa, First Secretary to the Chief of Staff at the Nigerian Embassy; Mr. Mohamed Faisal Ilyas, Media and Cultural Advisor at the Embassy of Pakistan; directors of university hospitals and specialized medical centers; Prof. Osama Hamdy, Professor at Harvard University and Member of the Board of Trustees of Mansoura University; representatives of international educational and academic institutions from the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, China, and other countries; and a select group of scientists and faculty members at Mansoura University, media and press professionals, and researchers from Arab and foreign countries.

The International Science Week at Mansoura University is a strategic platform for strengthening academic and research partnerships and exchanging experiences and ideas. This contributes to establishing a regional center for international scientific dialogue and creating an environment conducive to scientific innovation and cross-border academic communication. The week includes a series of dialogue sessions, specialized seminars, and keynote lectures focusing on the fields of health, engineering, artificial intelligence, sustainable development, and other contemporary research topics.

Prof. Cherif Khater welcomed the attendees, expressing his pleasure at the launch of the Science Week activities, which embodies Mansoura University's vision of supporting innovation and scientific research and enhances its position as a leading center in education and scientific research regionally and internationally. He added that organizing this event reflects the university's commitment to its role in promoting scientific research and international cooperation, based on its belief in the importance of innovation and science in building a better future, in light of the construction of the new republic under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. He expressed his hope that these events would serve as a platform for launching new ideas and influential partnerships that serve humanity. He extended his thanks to all the guests and participants from Arab and international academic and diplomatic institutions, as well as the team organizing this major scientific event.

Major General Tarek Marzouk expressed his pleasure at being present at this important international scientific event among a group of professors and scientists in Dakahlia Governorate, under the wise leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who places great importance on supporting science and scientists and harnessing knowledge to achieve prosperity, progress, and security for citizens. He added that Mansoura University has been and continues to be the scientific partner of the governorate, praising the university's academic and research achievements, which contribute to achieving the sustainable development goals of Egypt's Vision 2030.

He noted that organizing this international scientific event reflects Mansoura University's commitment to supporting scientific research as a key tool for achieving sustainable development and building a better future for future generations.

Prof. Tarek Ghalwash welcomed all participants and attendees, expressing his pride in hosting such a large number of international scholars and researchers. He explained that holding this scientific week for the first time falls within the framework of the university's commitment to supporting internationalization strategies and opening up to global educational and research institutions, thus enhancing the quality of education and scientific research. He described this week as a platform for exchanging knowledge and expertise and building bridges of cooperation between universities and institutions from around the world, expressing his hope that the events will result in the launch of joint research initiatives and projects that serve humanity.

The opening session featured speeches by Mr. Zhang Huosheng, Counselor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Cairo; Prof. Eiji Nagasawa, Director of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPSAAE), representing the Embassy of Japan in Cairo; Mr. Islam Shabana, Director of Education Projects at the British Council; Ms. Nora Tufenkjian, Coordinator of the French-Egyptian Higher Education and Scientific Research Projects; Dr. Hani Serag, Director of the International Partnerships Department at the University of Texas Medical Branch; Dr. Matthew Mendoza, Director of the Science Team Program at the University of Texas; Prof. Gad El-Kady, Vice President of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science in Egypt (JSPSAAE); Prof. Tamer Nasr, Director of the Kyushu University Cairo Office; and Ms. Ina Ueno, an expert at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

 It is noteworthy that the activities of the International Science Week include a series of keynote lectures held over four days with the participation of international experts in various fields, in addition to specialized workshops and open discussion sessions on the most prominent global scientific challenges, which contributes to enhancing the culture of innovation and creativity among researchers and young academics. This week also represents a starting point for new research partnerships Pioneering scientific initiatives contribute to enhancing Mansoura University's position regionally and internationally, and support its global orientation.
