Mansoura University Signs Cooperation Protocol with the Arab Union for the Protection of Wildlife and Marine Life to Support Environmental and Developmental Issues

As part of Mansoura University's commitment to supporting environmental and developmental issues and serving the goals of environmental and sustainable development, the university, represented by its Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, signed a joint cooperation protocol with the Arab Union for the Protection of Wildlife and Marine Life, affiliated with the League of Arab States, at the Union's headquarters in Cairo. This agreement aims to bolster Arab scientific cooperation and integrate institutional efforts in the fields of natural resource protection and biodiversity conservation.
Prof. Maha Abdo El-Ashmawy represented the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the signing, on behalf of Prof. Cherif Khater, President of the University. Prof. Gamal Madani, Secretary-General of the Arab Union for the Protection of Wildlife and Marine Life, represented the Union, on behalf of Prof. Bahaa Helmy Badr, Chairman of the Union's Board of Directors. Prof. Mohamed Ali Maher, Head of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Faculty, oversaw the coordination of the protocol.
Prof. Cherif Khater affirmed that the signing of the cooperation protocol stems from the university's commitment to supporting environmental and developmental issues and enhancing its societal and scientific role in serving the goals of the environment and sustainable development. He noted that the university places great importance on integrating academic efforts with specialized Arab institutions to address contemporary environmental challenges, protect natural resources, and preserve biodiversity. He added that this cooperation reflects the university's orientation towards expanding regional scientific partnerships and linking scientific research with practical application, thus contributing to the preparation of qualified scientific personnel capable of supporting sustainable development paths in Egypt and the Arab world.
Prof. Maha Abdo El-Ashmawy explained that the protocol aims to achieve integration and cooperation between the two parties in the areas of training, developing scientific and awareness programs, and exchanging specialized technical consultations, thereby contributing to raising the efficiency of scientific and research personnel and strengthening the societal role of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. She added that the areas of cooperation encompass several important strategic axes, including climate change and ways to mitigate its effects, protecting biodiversity, training and qualifying environmental guides, supporting sustainable ecotourism, developing aquaculture, and highlighting the economic importance of wild plants and animals. She emphasized that the college always strives to utilize its scientific expertise to serve environmental and developmental issues.
Dr. Gamal Madani also affirmed that signing the protocol with Mansoura University represents a pivotal step in supporting joint Arab environmental action and reflects a serious commitment to linking academic expertise with practical application. He pointed out that the cooperation will lead to the launch of impactful training and awareness initiatives and programs, providing practical scientific solutions that serve the community and support national and regional efforts in the fields of wildlife and marine protection. He stressed that the partnership with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Mansoura University is a valuable addition to Arab environmental work and contributes to consolidating its role as a leading scientific institution in raising environmental awareness and supporting sustainable development paths in the Arab world. The Arab Union for the Protection of Wildlife and Marine Life is an international, non-profit Arab organization affiliated with the Council of Arab Economic Unity of the League of Arab States. Its aim is to promote Arab integration in protecting natural resources and preserving environmental heritage. The Union works to support official bodies in documenting living organisms, raising environmental awareness, and developing and managing nature reserves. It also organizes conferences, seminars, and specialized awareness workshops in the fields of wildlife and marine life conservation, in accordance with relevant international laws and agreements, thereby contributing to sustainable development efforts at the Arab level.
This protocol represents an effective model for joint Arab scientific cooperation in addressing contemporary environmental issues. It constitutes a qualitative addition to Arab environmental work and contributes to consolidating Mansoura University's role as a leading scientific institution in raising environmental awareness and enhancing research and awareness efforts that support sustainable development paths in various Arab countries.
