Mansoura University inaugurates the "First Artificial Intelligence Summit Week" with the participation of 16 universities

University President: The Faculty of Engineering's winning of the Egypt Government Excellence Award for the second consecutive time reflects its institutional leadership and its ability to lead national scientific initiatives

Prof. Cherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, inaugurated the "First Artificial Intelligence Summit Week – Mansoura University 2026," organized by the Faculty of Engineering under the slogan "Towards a Sustainable Digital Future," with the participation of 16 Egyptian universities, including public, private, and national institutions. This event reflects the Egyptian state's commitment to promoting artificial intelligence applications as a fundamental pillar of sustainable development and building the new republic.

The opening ceremony was attended by: Prof. Mohamed Attia El-Bayoumi, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Azim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Tarek Ghalwash, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research; Prof. Sherif El-Badawy, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Prof. Noha Heikal, Dean of the Faculty of Computers and Information; Major General Ahmed Khairy, Assistant Director of the Military Academy for Scientific Research, representing the Military Academy; Prof. Hesham Farouk, Advisor to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology for Technological Development; Prof. Mohamed Khalif, Consultant for Innovation and Digital Transformation and Member of the Communications and Information Technology Research Council; Prof. Mohamed Hegazy, former Head of the Legislation and Laws Committee at the Ministry of Communications; Prof. Abeer Tawakkol, Executive Director of the Artificial Intelligence Engineering Program at the Faculty of Engineering and Coordinator of the Week; Dr. Walid Tantawy, Assistant Secretary of the University for Education and Student Affairs; several faculty deans and members; a number of experts and specialists in the fields of artificial intelligence and digital transformation; and representatives from academic and technological institutions.

At the start of the events, Prof. Cherif Khater inaugurated the student exhibition accompanying the week, which featured a collection of applied projects and student innovations from participating universities in the fields of artificial intelligence and digital transformation. This reflected the connection between academic study and practical application, and highlighted students' abilities to utilize modern technology to provide smart solutions that serve society and support sustainable development.

The opening session also began with the presentation of an introductory video, created using artificial intelligence techniques, showcasing the forum's vision and objectives, and outlining the features of the digital future that the university seeks to establish.

Prof. Cherif Khater welcomed the attendees, emphasizing that Mansoura University's organization of this scientific event reflects its belief in the role of universities as the first line of defense for awareness, progress, and the nation's standing among the countries of the world, in an era where knowledge and technology have become the true tools of power. He explained that the forum's objective is not limited to the scientific aspect alone, but extends to strengthening communication among students from different Egyptian universities and building bridges of cooperation and friendship between students of public, private, and national universities, thus contributing to bridging gaps and fostering a spirit of belonging and collaborative work. He noted that the event coincided with the Faculty of Engineering winning first place for the second consecutive time in the Egypt Government Excellence Award, reflecting the efficiency of its institutional performance, the quality of its management, and its culture of innovation. He emphasized that artificial intelligence is an inevitable reality, necessitating clear technical and legislative controls to govern its use. This will ensure that it serves humanity and does not undermine the role of human intellect, with particular attention to protecting youth and future generations from any potential negative impacts of modern technology.

Prof. Mohamed Attia El-Bayoumi affirmed that Mansoura University places great importance on developing its students' skills in artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and entrepreneurship. He commended the participation of various Egyptian universities in this national scientific event and thanked the participating universities for their support and positive engagement. He added that the university operates according to a clear vision aimed at preparing a generation capable of meeting the demands of the digital age. He pointed out that supporting major scientific activities and strengthening partnerships among Egyptian universities are fundamental pillars in developing the educational process.

Prof. Sherif El-Badawy emphasized that organizing the "First Artificial Intelligence Summit Week" represents a highly significant national scientific event, reflecting the Egyptian state's commitment to building an advanced knowledge-based society founded on technology and innovation. He explained that the participation of delegations from 16 Egyptian universities confirms that artificial intelligence is no longer merely a research field, but has become a pillar of comprehensive development and a key driver for the future of education, industry, and services in Egypt. He pointed out that Mansoura University prioritizes supporting modern academic programs that meet the needs of the labor market and the state's digital transformation plans. He noted that the Artificial Intelligence Engineering program at the Faculty of Engineering is the first specialized program in this field in Egypt and represents a pioneering model for preparing qualified professionals capable of leading the future and serving society and the national economy.

Prof. Abeer Tawakkul explained that organizing this event comes within the framework of supporting the state's digital transformation strategy and implementing the pillars of the National Strategy for Higher Education, in line with Egypt's Vision 2030. She pointed out Mansoura University's commitment to being a national platform for bringing together young minds from various Egyptian universities to exchange experiences, support innovation, and build a knowledge-based economy. She noted the establishment of the first Artificial Intelligence program at the Faculty of Engineering in 2021 to prepare human resources capable of keeping pace with the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and fourth-generation universities. She emphasized that the week's activities aim to develop students' skills, support scientific research, and encourage smart applications that serve the community and achieve sustainable development. They also aim to discover and guide young talents towards innovation and digital entrepreneurship, and to prepare graduates capable of integrating into the local and regional labor market.

The opening session concluded with the honoring of several leaders and figures who have supported the innovation and digital transformation journey, in recognition of their contributions to supporting scientific and technological programs and strengthening cooperation between academic institutions and relevant stakeholders. This reflects Mansoura University's commitment to fostering a culture of appreciation and encouraging outstanding role models in the fields of development and innovation.

The "First Artificial Intelligence Summit Week" at Mansoura University includes a series of specialized scientific sessions, panel discussions, technical workshops, and innovative exhibitions.
