Mansoura University Leads Africa in Cybersecurity: Engineering Students' Achievement

Students from the Faculty of Engineering at Mansoura University topped the Claw The Flag – Cybears cybersecurity competition, securing first and second place across Africa, outperforming teams from various African countries.

Mansoura University's first-place finish was achieved by the L0ck8y7e team, comprised of students Ziad Mohamed El-Saeed El-Ranqrani from the Communications and Computer Engineering (CCE) program, and Karim Essam Abdelbadi El-Shoura, Mahmoud Osama Ali, and Mohamed Wagdy Khalaf from the Computer Engineering and Control Systems Department. The Gen-Z team, represented by student Youssef Ayman Maher from the Artificial Intelligence (AI) program, secured second place in Africa, following fierce competition among elite cybersecurity teams from across the continent.

Prof. Cherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, congratulated the students on this outstanding achievement, emphasizing that the university's students' successive successes in advanced technological fields reflect the quality of the educational and training programs it offers. He also highlighted the university's commitment to preparing graduates with the scientific and applied skills necessary to compete regionally and internationally, particularly in the fields of cybersecurity and digital transformation. He noted that this achievement demonstrates the high level of excellence possessed by Mansoura University students and underscores their ability to translate academic knowledge into practical applications that yield tangible results on the international stage. He affirmed the university's continued support for creative students and its commitment to providing a supportive environment for discovering and developing their abilities across various disciplines.

Prof. Sherif El-Badawy, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, expressed his pride in the students' remarkable achievement at the African level. He emphasized that this excellence is the fruit of continuous development in academic programs and practical training within the faculty, contributing to the preparation of engineers capable of keeping pace with the rapid advancements in modern technology and information security. The Dean of the Faculty added that student participation in specialized international competitions represents a genuine opportunity to gain practical experience and enhance analytical thinking and teamwork skills, thus supporting their readiness for the job market and contributing to graduating qualified individuals capable of innovation and global competition.

The competition was held as part of the Claw The Flag – Cybears (CTF) competitions, which are considered among the most advanced competitions in the field of cybersecurity. These competitions rely on simulating real-world challenges to discover vulnerabilities and secure digital systems. The competition witnessed fierce competition among distinguished teams from various African countries, culminating in Mansoura University students taking the top spot at the continental level.

This achievement underscores the excellence of Mansoura University's Faculty of Engineering students and reflects the university's success in supporting scientific and technological activities that contribute to preparing a generation capable of creativity and innovation, and of representing Egypt honorably in regional and international forums.
