Mansoura University President Inspects New Emergency Hospital Extension Project

Prof. Cherif Khater: The project represents a qualitative addition to the medical system and will contribute to alleviating the increasing pressure on the current emergency hospital, which receives approximately 200,000 cases annually.

University President: We are committed to expediting the project's implementation according to the highest standards to provide urgent and advanced medical services to the people of Dakahlia and the Delta governorates.

Prof. Cherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, inspected the new emergency hospital extension project to monitor its progress and implementation phases, reflecting the university's commitment to developing the medical sector's infrastructure and enhancing its capacity to provide urgent medical care services according to the highest standards.

The university president was accompanied on the tour by Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Azim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development and Engineering Advisor to the President; Prof. Ashraf Shoma, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Sherif El-Badawy, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Prof. Amir Fikry, Director of the Emergency Hospital; his deputies, Prof. Magdy Bashir and Prof. Ahmed Saleh; Prof. Mahmoud El-Gamal, Project Manager; Prof. Hamed Askar, Professor in the Department of Structural Engineering; Dr. Mohamed El-Shahawy, member of the supervisory committee; and representatives of the implementing company.

Prof. Cherif Khater emphasized that the new Emergency Hospital extension project represents a significant addition to the Mansoura University Hospital system. It comes within the framework of the university's plan to develop health services and expand the capacity of university hospitals to keep pace with the continuous increase in the number of patients visiting the Emergency Hospital, which receives approximately 200,000 cases annually and performs nearly 15,000 surgeries to save accident and critically ill patients. This will contribute to alleviating the increasing pressure on the existing hospital and enhancing the ability of university hospitals to handle emergency cases more efficiently. He noted the university administration's commitment to meticulous and continuous monitoring of the project's implementation phases according to the established timeline, including all administrative, legal, and engineering procedures. He also highlighted the ongoing coordination between the university president's engineering consultant, the Engineering Studies Center at the Faculty of Engineering, the Engineering Supervision Committee, and the implementing company. This coordination ensures that the work is carried out according to the highest approved engineering and technical standards, achieving the highest levels of quality and guaranteeing the smooth progress of the project without obstacles.

He further emphasized the implementing company's obligation to expedite work and increase completion rates, while fully adhering to all engineering requirements, occupational safety procedures, and civil protection standards at the work site. This is essential for the safety of workers and to ensure the quality of the project's execution.

Prof. Cherif Khater pointed out that Mansoura University is continuing its plan to develop its university hospitals and expand their capacity. This will enhance their ability to provide advanced medical services for critical cases and road accident victims, given the vital role the university hospitals play in serving the residents of Dakahlia Governorate and the Delta region. He affirmed the university's commitment to accelerating the project's implementation according to the highest standards, ensuring the provision of urgent and advanced medical services that meet patients' needs and elevate the level of healthcare provided. In this context, the new Emergency Hospital extension project is one of the strategic medical projects the university is implementing to support the healthcare system and develop emergency services at university hospitals.

The new building, constructed on a 1,500-square-meter plot in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, comprises a basement for essential services, a ground floor, and nine upper floors. It includes a dedicated emergency reception floor, two floors for the Ministry of Health, and floors for operating rooms, intensive care units, recovery rooms, laboratories, inpatient wards, and support services. Additionally, there is a floor dedicated to receiving kidney center patients and another for dental emergencies.

The project also includes 160 inpatient beds, 50 intensive care beds, and 10 operating rooms equipped with a capsule system. Furthermore, it features a central blood bank, comprehensive laboratories, and radiology units including X-ray, CT scan, and MRI, along with an integrated medical gas network and a central sterilization unit. This ensures the provision of comprehensive medical services according to the latest medical and technological standards.
